Most important information about getting visa for Uzbekistan
Every traveller must have a visa for entry to Uzbekistan
before arrival, whether by plane, train, bus, car or camel. You will be
refused entry without a visa. Generally a visa should be obtained at an
Embassy or
Consulate of the Republic of Uzbekistan abroad. But in some
cases a visa can be obtained at the airport of Tashkent. E.g. if you reside
in a country that does not have an Uzbek embassy or Consulate.
In most cases (with the exception that you can find
here), to apply for a visa foreign nationals need a visa
support (Letter Of Invitation - LOI) from a local
organization or a person in Uzbekistan (calling party).
Entry, entry-exit and transit visas are issued by the consular officers. Multi-entry visas for the period of one year are issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Detailed description of general procedure of getting visa for Uzbekistan
So then, to apply for a visa foreign nationals need a visa support (Letter Of Invitation - LOI) from a local organization or a person in Uzbekistan
(calling party).
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan requires from each guest a copy
of its passport (just a page with a photo) and a
certificate of employment (US citizens shouldn't submit a certificate of employment - just a passport). Calling party should submit these papers to MFA for consideration
simultaneously with application. That's all right if a certificate is written in free style. It should be few words (preferable in English) just to confirm that you work on certain position in a certain place.
The certificate is required even if you plan to stay in Uzbekistan only for a few days as a tourist.
Generally, after a calling party would receive complete information for a Visa Support from a guest, it takes a workweek before calling party would be able to send a LOI. All this period of time the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tashkent (MFA) will carefully reread guest's personal data. Sometimes it is happen that MFA denies an application for a visa without any explanations. But it is not really common.
When MFA approves someone's visit it sends a special kind of
notification to the Embassy or Consulate of Uzbekistan in that exactly
country where a traveler obtains the visa. This
notification has a unique reference number. When calling party gets this number from
MFA, it's a sure thing. Calling party should place the number to LOI. Travel Agencies should send LOI together with a tourist voucher via e-mail or by any other way, which is acceptable for both parties. Right away after receiving of LOI
guest can apply for the visa from appropriate Embassy or
Consulate of Uzbekistan.
Generally the process of visa obtaining from Embassy /
Consulate takes 1-3 working days. You will be asked to fill in a special
questionnaire
(see below) in the Embassy, to submit the passport, a photo and an
appropriate Consular visa fee.
Note:
We advise you to not purchase tickets until you have obtained your visa. You
can just book it but not to buy.

2. Send a copy of your passport and a certificate of employment (see above).
Note:
A scanned copy of passport/certificate can be attached as a file when preparing of sending the form.
Please, be sure that file to be attached is properly zipped. If your file is too large it may create a problem
to receive it from mailbox.
3. On the basis of information provided by you, a calling party prepares a
visa application letter to be submitted to the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs (MFA) in Tashkent. Generally MFA examines
application letters during 5-7 days before approves or sometimes denies it.
Note: You should not request LOI in more than one calling party in Uzbekistan at the same time as MFA could be confused and therefore most likely would deny your visit.
4. When MFA approves someone's visit they send a special kind of notification to the Embassy or Consulate of Uzbekistan in that exactly country where a traveler will obtain
a visa. This notification has a unique reference number. The reference
number, received from MFA, a calling party places to LOI to be e-mailed or faxed to you.
Note: Calling party sends no information directly to an Embassy or Consulate.
5. Right away after receiving of LOI you can apply for
the visa from appropriate Embassy or Consulate of Uzbekistan.
Get ready to be separate with your passport for a certain time. Generally
the process of visa obtaining from Embassy / Consulate takes 1-3 working
days. Additional consular fees are also paid at the Embassy / Consulate with
your visa application, it may cost about US$40 - $250
depending on the length of your stay in the country, quantity of entries /
exits and your nationality. You will be asked to fill in a special
questionnaire (available on
www.uzbekconsulny.org),
submit a photo and our LOI. If you still have questions
send us an e-mail or
contact to suitable Embassy / Consulate.
Where to obtain
Uzbekistan Visa?
You can obtain a visa in all places where only Uzbekistan
Embassies / Consulates exist. In some cases it is possible to obtain a
visa at the international arrivals lounge of Tashkent airport,
mainly when you arrive from a country that has no diplomatic representatives
of Uzbekistan. But it should be approved by Uzbek MFA and especially
mentioned in LOI. Please contact us via e-mail to find out if you can
obtain a visa at the airport. If you know some Russian, you can put a question to our expert on
Internet forum.
Note:
You must foresee where visa will be obtained. E.g. you cannot obtain the visa
in Istanbul if Washington, DC is indicated in LOI as a place of the
visa obtaining. If you decide to change a place where visa should be
obtained then calling party has to apply to MFA once again, then send you a new
LOI.
